About Me

I am a biologist, artist, musician, self-taught photographer, and climate justice activist. I was raised in Oaxaca speaking “Spanglish” with my Meixcan father and British/american mother, who always encouraged me to be curious and explore outdoors. My upbringing in Oaxaca, one of the world's most biodiverse regions, shaped my profound appreciation for the delicate equilibrium and intricate beauty of nature.

Navigating the challenges of an increasingly unstable world, I've embraced a role as a fervent advocate for community-based conservation and climate justice. What troubles me is the prevalence of 'doom and gloom' narratives regarding our planet's state, coupled with a notable absence of open discussions on the psychological toll this takes on young minds. Witnessing the escalating imbalance and uncertainty has fueled my commitment to being a part of the solution.

My aspiration is to inspire others by fostering hope and cultivating a community that not only encourages open conversations but also empowers individuals to channel their anxieties and concerns into meaningful action. In the face of adversity, I seek to create a space where collective strength arises from shared values and a shared determination to shape a positive future.

Human-Wildlife Conflicts in Argentine Patagonia

“ Chasing Shadows ”

As a Darwin Leader I researched the conservation of the native Puma concolor within Patagonia’s Chubut Province in Argentina. I delved into the conflict between local sheep farmers and the perceived threat of pumas on their livelihoods. In partnership with CONICET and Fundación Vida Silvestre (a local conservation NGO) we spoke to farmers who are being assisted in the training of sheepdogs that protect their cattle to reduce the persecution of these wild cats.

Wildlife Conservation

“ Savage Beauty “

This video showcases a compilation of the beautiful wildlife I was lucky enough to encounter during my two-month internship in South Africa with GVI Limpopo. I hope that seeing these animals in their natural habitat will make people reflect on the intrinsic value of these creatures particularly now as human-wildlife conflicts become an increasingly common problem due to urban expansion encroaching on wildlife habitats forcing increased co-existence.

Human-wildlife conflicts have become an increasingly common problem due to urban expansion encroaching on wildlife habitats and forcing increased co-existence. South Africa’s wildlife is experiencing degradation and extinction rates higher than ever before. Over half of the terrestrial mammals have experienced range reductions of up to 80% on average, and this is expected to increase. We must protect all of these beautiful creatures like they are our family. If you are not convinced of their intrinsic value, perhaps this video will change your mind.

Sustainable Solutions

“ Bioengineering bioplastics to tackle single-use plastic waste and save lives ”

In my final year of my undergraduate Biology degree at the University of Sheffield, I directed this short video as the final product for my science communication module. I interviewed Dr Ipsita Roy from the Engineering Department at the university who told me about her revolutionary work which can not only help to improve people's health and livelihoods but also contribute towards the Planet's health by reducing single-use plastic waste which has ravaged our world, particularly since the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Climate Conversations

“ A Letter from the Future “

Young people were asked to write letters imagining their lives in 2050. These are their voices. I assisted Bill Finnegan in the making of this video, which formed part of a digital storytelling project that he led as part of his doctoral research at the University of Oxford.

Climate Change Education

“ We can all be environmental superheroes ”

I created this stop-motion animation as an educational video for all audiences to understand the importance of individual action in combating climate change. It was chosen to be exhibited within the collaborative “Pupil Power Roadshow” at COP26 in Glasglow.
